Premier League – Team of the Week 2

team of the week 2GOALKEEPER

Begovic was called into action as Courtois is still serving his 3 match ban from the opening game of the season, with some sharp saves. Man city could have gone on to score 4-5 goals was it not for his great performance.

DEFENCE

Kompany was solid at the back against a potent chelsea side. Not only that but he managed to make it 2 out of 2 by nodding in a classical defender’s goal from the corner.

Smalling kept it tight at the back and made it difficult for Aston Villa. He is much improved from last season

Jagielka combined with Stones to give Everton a solid back two. Which freed up the top end of the pitch allowing Lukaku and Barkley to get their names on the score sheet. A much improved Everton compared to last season. Maybe a top 5 finish?

MIDFIELD

Fernandinho makes my team this week because of his overall game. Defensively sound and popped up to fire home the third goal. Some pundits reckon he should have been sent off for his challenge on Costa.

Ireland was subbed on in the second half trailing 2-0 against Tottenham. He flipped the game on its head, firing in crosses and picking runs. His performance levelled the match at 2-2 at the final whistle.

Montero has had a great start to the season. Being injured for the majority of the last season he is turning heads with his pace and crossing ability. He was just too good for Janmaat who eventually was sent off for several rash tackles on him.

Mahrez put Leicester at the top of the table for two weeks running his performances are getting better and better. Last season was a great stepping stone and I’m pretty sure one of the big teams will snap him up soon. Positive play in front of goal allowed him to find one for himself this week

ATTACK

Benteke was a great signing for liverpool this season after Balotelli and others flopped last year. Firing in the controversial winner, Benteke sealed all three points as confident as ever.

Aguero doing what Aguero does best. Some neat touches in the box allowed him to manoeuvre away from defenders to slot it past an inform Begovic. His ability to find the net never ceases to amaze me!

Lukaku has hit the ground running scoring 2 past Southampton. With this form continuing for the rest of the season he will be one of the top strikers this year.
